Plan Your Visit
What to expect as a new patient
At Millennium Dental, we serve patients of all ages who value long-term oral health. Whether you’re here for a routine checkup or a specific concern, your first visit is all about understanding your needs and helping you navigate the best treatment options suited for your situation. Our team will take the time to get to know you, learn about your health history, and complete a comprehensive evaluation so we can build a clear, personalized path forward.
First Appointment Overview
What happens when you come in
An initial appointment at Millennium Dental typically lasts around 1.5 hours. During this visit, we focus on learning as much as we can about your current oral health.
If your teeth and gums are healthy, we’ll complete a professional cleaning (prophylaxis) at this visit. If we discover you have more advanced needs, such as periodontal concerns that require scaling or root planing, we’ll schedule a separate appointment to address that properly.
Every new patient dental evaluation includes:
- A periodontal assessment to evaluate your gum health
- A full mouth series of X-rays, including bitewings
- A conversation about your dental and overall health history
- A review of your goals and priorities
- A discussion of any recommended next steps and treatment options
Digital X-Rays
Clearer imaging with less radiation
We use digital X-rays to get a detailed picture of your oral health. These offer several benefits, including:
- Reduced radiation exposure
- Sharper images for better diagnosis
- Immediate results
- A wider field of view with technology that only requires you to hold a small stick between your teeth
- A high-resolution scan that gives a complete view of your teeth, roots, and jaw structure
The images we take at your first visit provide a clear reference point we use to monitor changes with your teeth and gums over time. They’re also useful for planning preventive or restorative treatment with accuracy.
Gum Health Evaluation
Understanding where you stand
Your first visit includes a full periodontal probing, which helps us measure the health of the tissues that support your teeth. This is a key step in identifying early signs of gum disease, bone loss, or inflammation. This periodontal evaluation helps us to tailor your care accordingly.
Personalized Planning
Treatment options that make sense for you
After your evaluation, we’ll sit down and walk you through everything we’ve learned. You’ll receive a summary of your evaluation and imaging results, and we’ll have a conversation about your oral health goals and concerns. If Dr. Harrison believes you need treatment, she will provide you with a list of recommendations. Our office team will also provide you with the financial information you need to make decisions about your next steps. We’re here to help you make informed choices—not pressure you into treatment. If something can wait, we’ll let you know. If something needs to be addressed soon, we’ll explain why and outline your options clearly.
For Families and Younger Patients
Gentle care for every age
We welcome patients starting at age 5 and tailor each visit to suit their comfort level. For younger patients, the focus is on building trust, creating a positive experience, and making sure parents are fully informed about their child’s oral development. We make first visits fun because we know that these early dental visits are so important in setting the stage for a child’s oral health care journey for the rest of their life.
